Rachel is the senior legal assistant and the office manager.

Rachel and Darrin were married in 1993. No, Darrin did not marry his secretary. Rachel and Darrin were dating for many years before either decided they would make a career in law. Rachel attended the Legal Assistant Program at Algonquin College. She graduated in 1989. She has been working in the field ever since. She has been working with Darrin since he opened his own practice in 1999. She has over 33 years of experience.

There has been some discussion in the profession lately about whether paralegals should be permitted to practice in the area of family law. At present this is not permitted - unless the paralegal is working under the direction of a lawyer.

Rachel does a lot of substantive work at the office. She prepares the first draft of a separation agreement, court application and assists with financial disclosure. This is a real competitive advantage of the firm as there are two people that clients can talk to about their file and Rachel’s services are offered at a lower rate.
